A look at Halloween category spend
Halloween-related spending was expected to reach a record $12 billion according to the National Retail Federation based on its survey of more than 8,000 consumers. People spent an average of $108 on Halloween items, according to a press release by the NRF.
First kids, then adults
According to a representative from Party City (and as reported by Forbes), Halloween spending typically starts with big-budget decorations followed by costumes for kids. Closer to the holiday, people spend more on parties and adult costumes.
Envestnet® | Yodlee® data reflects that trend, as Figure 1 shows party supplies (decorations) accounted for the most spending prior to October, while costumes accounted for the most spending in October (67%).
