During the 1st weekend of April, over 1400 student “hackers” converged on the Pauley Pavilion at UCLA. Everyone from high school to university grad students were welcomed with open arms. LA Hacks 2015 encouraged all students “from complete beginners eager to write their first lines of code to experienced programmers” to bring their sleeping bags and join the competition. The students worked in teams to create some sensational technology products. They had 36 hours to make it happen! A large majority of the LA tech community was on hand as volunteers and mentors to the amazing young developers. Yodlee® Interactive co-sponsored the event along with the City of LA, Bloomberg, Pebble, Leap Motion, Mashape, SmartThings, Context.io, Blackstone Launchpad, DirectTV and a host of other community minded businesses. Our commitment to support and nurture the young developers and foster the entrepreneurial community for college students is as strong as ever. At the event, we were blown away by the promise and innovation of participants. Many of them were just starting out, and LA Hacks 2015 was their first hackathon. Seeing the creativity and the comradery first-hand inspired my developer evangelism team. We hope that many of the attendees will decide to pursue careers as developers. Upon reflection, I was inspired that we had met so many of the “best and brightest” young minds that will influence the future. I wondered if perhaps I had met a young Steve Jobs or Sheryl Sandberg. Also, I couldn’t help pondering all the amazing possibilities in disruptive technologies and creative apps that the future will most certainly bring. Are you looking to build a financial app?
